August 2013

While we can anticipate many weeks of glorious warm weather ahead, the Labor Day weekend officially marks the end of Summer.  If you’re planning a picnic or a home BBQ to mark the occasion, you’ll do well to stop by Ratto’s, and the Old Oakland Farmers Market tomorrow (Friday, August 30) to pick up some provisions. The market is bursting with summer fruit and vegetables, and we’ve just replenished our wine bins with some great deals. Imported cheeses have been cut, and our deli case will be full of salume, pate & deli meats. We’ll be open until 4:30 tomorrow, and will be closed  from Saturday, August 31 through Monday, September 2. Everyone at Ratto’s wishes you a safe & fun-filled weekend!

This is a wonderful, tasty dip that can also be used as a sandwich spread

The award-winning Domaine Gibault Sauvingnon Blanc ($15.99) is a beautiful golden color with notes of apricot. It has a well balanced mouth, rich and complex, with hints of rose and orange blossom, and a long smooth finish.

More Fab deals:

Chateau Martinot Bordeaux Blanc ($11.69). Crisp, fresh minerality

Picpoul de Pinet ($9.99). This classic is sooo drinkable, and what a deal!

Budget Friendly Reds:

El Cortijillo, Wine of La Mancha ($8.99). This 100% Tempranillo over-delivers for the price. Medium body, balanced, cherry fruit & spice pairs with just about any food. Perfect for Tapas! “Loads of fruit, freshness and purity” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocat

Maipe Malbec ($10.89). These 35-year old vines from Mendoza produce a smooth red with plum, fig and floral notes. Delicious with roasted meats, hard cheeses, pasta or as an aperitif.
